House Agriculture Committee Chairman Thompson Introduces Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026

PF & QF urge Congress to work together to pass bipartisan farm bill this year

Today, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-PA) introduced the committee’s proposed farm bill — the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026. The legislation marks a critical step in the process to complete a five-year farm bill, the single most important piece of legislation for conservation on private lands. 

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s top legislative priority is passage of a bipartisan farm bill that provides certainty for agricultural producers and sustains conservation programs that benefit wildlife habitat, soil health, water quality, and rural communities. This includes reauthorizing and strengthening the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which after 40 years remains a vital part of the farm safety net and the farm bill’s conservation title. 

“The introduction of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 moves the farm bill process forward at a pivotal time, and we thank Chairman Thompson and the House Agriculture Committee for their work on this legislation,” said Andrew Schmidt, Director of Government Affairs for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever. “After three years of short-term extensions, Congress must pass a bipartisan, five-year farm bill that reauthorizes and improves CRP and other conservation programs to provide the reliability and predictability producers need to manage risk and steward their land.”

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever urge Chairman Thompson, Ranking Member Angie Craig (D-MN), and other members of the Committee to work together to advance a farm bill that maintains strong conservation investments, enhances CRP and other key programs, and reinforces voluntary, incentive-based, locally led conservation solutions that benefit agriculture, wildlife, and rural America.
